Logie Steading Farm and Garden Shop

About

Open all year we are passionate about local food and hardy plants!  Strange mixture but the Longhorn Beef we sell is reared right here, and the majority of the plants we sell are propagated right here too.  We stock local cheeses, jams, honey, wild Roe Venison, fish, oatcakes, biscuits, oils, and some goodies from further afield. Being keen gardeners we also have a small range of specially selected tools that we all love to work with, and then there are the gifts and toys too.  Lots to inspire you!

Sustainable Practices

Reuse, recycle, reduce.  There is alot going on at Logie! Starting with the cows they are now grazed on regenerative, rotational system allowing the grass to rest and grow to its best advantage – it is great for the cows and great for the soil.

Our beef has minimum food miles – the animals live here, outside, for all of their lives.  The abattoir that we use is in Dingwall – just an hour away. Our plants have been grown in peat-free compost for over 10 years, and that is the only compost that we have ever sold.

Like our customers, we sometimes need to treat our plants as life in a pot can be stressful – we only ever use well tested natural products, and we sell them in the shop!

Logie Estate provides heat for the Steading from a central Biomass unit – fed with chip from selected wood grown on the estate, much of which is useless for anything else.

We provide customers with cardboard boxes to take their purchases home – these have been repurposed having delivered food and other products to the onsite Cafe, and to the Farm & Garden Shop.

We wash and reuse the flower pots. We propagate plants that are growing here in the garden – again, minimum miles of travel … just a matter of yards.
